Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore

Featuring the JMU Opera Theater

Wednesday - Thursday, April 16 - 17 @ 8 pm

Set sail on the high seas with Gilbert and Sullivan’s gleeful and sassy satire H.M.S. Pinafore. This lighthearted and hilarious operetta spoofs British social mores in a convoluted tale of mistaken identity and star-crossed lovers. Old Admiral Sir Joseph Porter plans to marry the much younger Josephine with the consent of her father, Captain Corcoran. But Josephine is in love with Ralph, a common seaman, and the couple plans to elope with the help of the crew. Dick Deadeye overhears their plan and tells the Admiral. To further complicate matters, Little Buttercup professes her love for the Captain and tells him a big secret—that Ralph and the Captain were switched at birth. Social conventions are soon overturned and chaos reigns in this delightfully silly and wild romp! Enjoy favorites like “We Sail the Ocean Blue,” “Little Buttercup” and “I Am the Captain of the Pinafore.”
