Sue Barber, bassoon

As a freelance musician in the region, Sue Barber performs regularly with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, Opera on the James and Opera Roanoke. Previous positions include principal bassoon of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, Connecticut Opera, Sarasota Opera and Natchez Opera, as well as assistant principal bassoon with the Baton Rouge Symphony, Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia (Spain), Rhode Island Philharmonic and the New Haven Symphony.

She has presented master classes and recitals in Asia, Europe and throughout the United States. Barber has also performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the National Flute Association Conferences in Washington, D.C. and New York City, several International Double Reed Society Conventions and the Virginia Music Educators annual conference. She holds degrees from Louisiana State University, The Juilliard School and the Crane School of Music. Barber is an associate professor of bassoon at James Madison University and a faculty artist with the Brevard Music Festival during the summer season.
