JMU Brass Band: Fragile Oasis

Friday, November 15 @ 8 pm

The JMU Brass Band will perform two pieces that highlight the dramatic growth and development of brass band music in the last 100 years: the North American premiere of Pete Meechan's Fragile Oasis, written this year for the Leyland Band and its appearance at the 2013 European Brass Band Championship; and Percy Fletcher's Labour and Love, a classic work that was the test piece for the 1913 English National Brass Band Championship and the first piece of its kind.

Also featured will be selections from Bernstein's West Side Story, Wagner's Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral, and more!

The JMU Brass Band is the university’s premiere brass ensemble. Directed by professor of music Kevin Stees, it is one of only a few collegiate brass bands in the United States. In 2009, the group became the first brass band to perform a full-length concert at the Kennedy Center.
