"Her voice is pure magic."
San Francisco Bay Guardian

One of the premier singers in jazz, Sheila Jordan is a superb scat singer who can just as easily reach the emotional depths of a ballad or improvise logical lyrics, which often rhyme. Whether singing well-known standards or original material, “her voice is pure magic.” (San Francisco Bay Guardian) In a career that has spanned more than a half-century, Jordan started out singing in clubs and jam sessions in the 1950s with some of New York’s jazz giants, including Charles Mingus, Herbie Nichols and Charlie Parker. Perhaps best known for her first recording, “You Are My Sunshine” with George Russell in 1962, Jordan has since released many albums under her own name and captured several top awards, including the 2012 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master (the nation’s highest jazz honor) and the 2008 Mary Lou Williams Award for a Lifetime of Service to Jazz. Come watch this 84-year-old, creative musical genius awe and inspire!
