The 13th Annual Choral Fest! features the JMU Chorale and 11 participating area high schools, resulting in over 280 voices!

Ranging from 60-80 voices, the JMU Chorale is an auditioned and highly select choir that performs repertoire from the Renaissance to the contemporary era in both sacred and secular genres. The Chorale maintains an active performance schedule both on- and off-campus. Its feature programs include the JMU Pops Concert and Holidayfest; the choir frequently collaborates on projects with the JMU Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. María Guinand is a conductor, university professor and international leader in choral music performance and education. A much sought-after clinician and guest conductor, Dr. Guinand specializes in Latin-American choral music of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Dr. Guinand currently teaches in the Master's Program for Choral Conductors at the University Simón Bolívar, where she has worked as professor and conductor for 28 years. She has also served as the Associate Conductor and Advisor of Choral Symphonic Performances and Activites of El Sistema (FESNOJIV) for more than 30 years. Dr. Guinand serves as the Artistic Director of the Schola Cantorum of Venezuela Foundation, and contributes to the permanent development of choral centers for children and youth of low economic resources in Venezuela and other Latin American countries in the Project Voces Latinas a Coro, sponsored by the Andean Corporation Bank. She also founded the Academia Bach de Venezuela in close relationship with the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart and the Academia Nacional de Canto Gregoriano.
