Join us for a celebration of the music of Bohuslav Martinu and selected J.S. Bach Sonata and Partitas for Solo Violin, plus a special dance duet by faculty Cynthia Thompson and Kate Trammell.

Wanchi gives highly acclaimed recitals, collaborates with internationally renowned performing artists in chamber music performances, and presents numerous violin master classes throughout the U.S. and Asia.

Wanchi began violin lessons with her mother in her native country, Taiwan, at the age of six. She came to the U.S. at age 13 and made her debut as a soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Catherine Comet a year later. Wanchi earned degrees in violin performance from the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School and Indiana University.

Wanchi has been invited to serve on the string jury in numerous national and international violin competitions. Since 2008, she has been a performing artist teacher at the Bay View Music Festival in Northern Michigan in the summers. Her CD of Eugene Ysaÿe’s Six Sonatas for Solo Violin has earned fabulous reviews and was released in 2012 under the Centaur record label. She is under contract to record the J.S. Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin in 2013.

Cynthia Thompson and Kate Trammell began making a dance together one week after they met, while still in their twenties. They have enjoyed a lively collaboration from that point onward. They co-founded thompson & trammell dance in 1983, and established the company as a tax-exempt non-profit organization in 1990. The company performs commissioned works as well as dances created separately and collectively by its’ co-founders, and has created commissioned works for professional as well as community-based dance companies.
