With a “very emotional performance style,” Amaranth Contemporary Dance has established itself as a “hidden jewel” in Richmond, Virginia. Founded in 2006 by internationally acclaimed choreographer Scott Putman, the company has presented its work in Italy, Mexico, California, Colorado, North Carolina, Rhode Island and Virginia. This year’s New Dance Festival features exceptional new works by Amaranth and JMU’s award-winning dance faculty members Suzanne Miller-Corso, Shane O’Hara, Ryan Corriston, Cynthia Thompson and Kate Trammell. Thompson and Trammell will collaborate with music faculty violinist Wanchi Huang for a performance, while adjunct faculty member Edwin Roa will join Miller-Corso for a duet. www.amarantharts.com
