Volunteer at the Forbes Center
If you have a passion for the arts, we want to welcome you as a volunteer in three key areas. To sign up to be a Forbes Center volunteer, fill out the form below, indicating which area you are most interested in. A member of the Forbes Center staff will get back with you. If you have questions, please call (540) 568–4393.
We look forward to working with you.
Duties: Ushers are a vital part of making the Forbes Center experience an enjoyable one for audiences and performers alike. From the moment the audience enters one of the five venues, ushers are the front line representatives for the Forbes Center. They greet patrons, distribute programs, scan tickets at the door, escort patrons to their specific seat locations, and provide information about the facility. They are also called upon to control unauthorized access to the venues, help facilitate latecomer seating, enforce theatre policies (e.g., no food or beverages in the venues) and assist with the safe and timely evacuation of the audience in the case of an emergency. Ushers must remain near the doors during all performances and are seated in specific usher seating near the exits.
Time Commitment and Dress: Ushers are required to attend a two-hour training. They report one hour prior to scheduled matinee or evening performances. Ushers are required to stay through the entire show. Ushers are asked to adhere to specific dress code requirements. Men wear dress pants, shirts and neckties. Women wear business casual work attire. Ushers will be given a nametag that they must keep and wear to every performance.
Benefits: Usher volunteers receive complimentary tickets to select shows throughout the season and invitations to special audience enrichment events.
Street Team/Group Sales
Duties: Street team/group sales volunteers are called upon to act as ambassadors in the community for the Forbes Center/James Madison University and its performances. Street team/group sales volunteers will post hang posters, distribute flyers and assist with advertising Forbes Center performances. They will also call upon businesses, social and corporate groups (10+) to encourage them to purchase tickets to performances at the Forbes Center. They will attend community events and distribute materials about performances, as well as assist with community open houses and other Forbes Center special events.
Time Commitment and Dress: Street team/group sales volunteers' schedules are subject to event times. Group sales duties can be scheduled during regular business hours. Street team/group sales volunteers’ dress code requirements will vary depending on the event that they are working.
Benefits: Street team/group sales volunteers receive complimentary tickets to select shows throughout the season and invitations to special audience enrichment events.
