MADtalk: Dr. Philip Frana: From Science Fiction to Science Fact

Is Science Fiction just a genre of fantastic stories, or does it produce real knowledge for the advancement of the human species? Is Science Fiction a working part of the Scientific Enterprise? If so, what kinds of knowledge does it produce? In this talk, Dr. Phil Frana will investigate the potential extraordinary role of Science Fiction in the conduct of Contemporary Science.

Come out on Tuesday, October 3 from 6pm-7pm in Madison Union 305 to hear from Dr. Phil Frana as he investigates the potential extraordinary role of Science Fiction in the conduct of Contemporary Science.

Dr. Frana is Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies & Independent Scholars at James Madison University and Associate Dean of the Honors College. He is currently writing a book on The Past, Present, and Future of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Automation for ABC-CLIO. Frana is a regular speaker at Escape Velocity, a futuristic world’s fair merging pop culture and science hosted by the Museum of Science Fiction.
