Whitten Maher Memorial Scholarship for Writing and Design

Mon, 9 Jan 2017 12:00 AM - Fri, 3 Feb 2017 11:59 PM

$1000 Scholarship Deadline - February 3, 2017

Open to all JMU freshman, sophomores, and juniors

Read any Breeze Opinion column by JMU alum Whitten Maher (’10) and you’ll understand the scholarship that honors his memory.

The Whitten Maher Memorial Scholarship was established to encourage and recognize design- or writing-based works by JMU undergraduate students that

  • engage and educate audiences through a civic purpose,
  • promote empathy rather than derision, and/or
  • encourage populations who feel unrecognized or misunderstood.

If your designs, written compositions, or digital projects engage any of these ideals—whether you created it for a JMU class or for a non-academic purpose and audience—please consider submitting now. Strike while your end-of-the-semester academic fires still burn brightly, but know that your submission need not come from this semester. If you created it while a JMU student, it's eligible.
