STC Officer Elections

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

Location: Harrison 2246

The end of the semester is upon us, and with it comes the Semester Wrap-Up meeting for the JMU Society for Technical Communication (JMU STC). During this meeting, we will be holding officer elections, playing a fun game, and eating free pizza.

If you want to gain an impressive resume experience, be in a leadership role, or get involved, run for an officer position for the 2016-2017 school year. The positions available are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Relations Officer. You may run for more than one position, but you will only be nominated for one.

Here are the primary duties of each officer:

  • President – plan and run officer and general body meetings, select meeting topics, and organize guest speakers
  • Vice President – purchase speaker gifts and snacks for meetings, and run meetings in the event of the president’s absence
  • Secretary – record notes for officer and general body meetings, and organize attendance for general body meetings
  • Treasurer – oversee chapter funds and plan fundraising events
  • Public Relations Officer – manage the publication of the EmD@sh newsletter using Adobe InDesign, select newsletter topics, coordinate writers and editors for newsletter, and create flyers to advertise meetings

To add your name to the ballot, email me at longsr@dukes.jmu.edu and state your full name, year, and the position for which you would like to run. Then, attend the meeting prepared to briefly talk about what qualifies you for that position.

The deadline to add your name to the ballot is Monday, April 18.

All students are welcome, regardless of your major or minor, so bring your friends and roommates.

If you have any questions about the meeting or about the available positions, feel free to email me at longsr@dukes.jmu.edu.

I hope to see you there!

Sydnie Long,
JMU STC President
