On August 26, 2015, the lives of Andy and Barbara Parker changed forever when their daughter Alison, a JMU alumna, and a journalist for WDBJ7, was murdered on live television near Roanoke, Virginia. While his emotions were still raw, Andy vowed on national television to do “whatever it takes” to end gun violence in America. The phrase turned into a national rallying cry to fight for life-saving firearms policies.

Parker has taken those raw emotions and created a book, FOR ALISON: The Murder of a Young Journalist and a Father's Fight for Gun Safety, documenting his fight against the gun lobby, Google, and those people who believe his daughter’s shooting was an internet hoax.

On March 14th at 7:30 pm in Memorial Hall, The Society of Professional Journalists presents author and activist Andy Parker for a lecture and book signing. Parker’s book will be available for purchase after the lecture.  We hope you can attend, as the lecture is sure to be painful, raw, and insightful.
