A screening of local community inspired non-fiction films produced by students in James Madison University’s School of Media Arts and Design will take place at the Court Square Theater in downtown Harrisonburg on Thursday, December 13 from 6:30-8:30PM.

SMAD student filmmakers worked on a series of short non-fiction films that tell the stories of Harrisonburg High School students that participate in the Scholars' Latino Initiative program. Also, longer documentaries were created that explore a diverse range of subjects and topics including: a retired army veteran's dedication to protecting neglected and abandoned animals, a sexual assault survivor's fight to change the institutional policies on her college campus, and how an advocate for food security uses dumpster diving as a way to highlight food waste, and food poverty in her community.
