Harrisonburg, VA— A screening of local community inspired non-fiction films produced by students in James Madison University’s School of Media Arts and Design will take place at the Court Square Theater in downtown Harrisonburg on Thursday, December 14 from 7-9PM.

SMAD student filmmakers worked on a series of short non-fiction videos that tell the stories of Harrisonburg High School students who are refugees and HHS students that participate in the Scholars Latino Initiative program. Also, longer documentaries were created that explore a diverse range of subjects and topics including: the challenges a refugee family from the Sudan faces transitioning to life in the Shenandoah Valley, how woman are making space for themselves in the male-dominated craft-beer industry, an undocumented JMU student’s fight to achieve the American Dream, and the complex issues behind the extreme pollution of the Shenandoah River.
