Lifeguard Training

Fri, 12 Apr 2013 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM

This American Red Cross Lifeguarding course will train the participants in all the skills and techniques necessary to become a professional lifeguard. This training course is intended for those who seek a certification for the first time or for those who are renewing their certification. There will be videos, demonstrations, as well as hands on experience. The class covers equipment based rescues, spinal injury management and post – rescue care. Participants will also learn how to interact with the public.

This is a three-day training:

  • April 12, 2013: 5-9pm
  • April 13, 2013: 9am-5pm
  • April 14, 2013: 9am-5pm

Participants must successfully pass the Lifeguarding Pre-Requisite Session to register for this course. Participants must be on time and ready to partake in every session; if participant is late this will result in failure of the course. Upon successful completion of this course the participant will receive Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications valid for two years. Certification cards will be mailed to participants within one month of course completion.

Register at UREC with $100 FLEX by the day of the program. This fee is non-refundable if participant does not demonstrate skill competency or fails written test.

Download and print this Training Material before the course and bring it with you.

Please note these programs are for current JMU students, faculty, staff members, and affiliates only. Registered participants must arrive early for any of the Red Cross Courses that you register for (10 to 15 minutes is recommended). If you arrive later than the scheduled start time, you will not be permitted entry into the class and will not be eligible to receive a refund. Do you have a group that needs certification? Please contact Matt Lovesky (loveskms@jmu.edu or 540-568-8714) about setting up special certification sessions.
