The Exciting Life of Bars in Galaxies

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

"The Exciting Life of Bars in Galaxies!" is the title of our LAST public science talk on Thursday, 4/23 at 7p in James Madison University's Wilson Hall! This will be a great talk for all the young scientists/engineers! FREE!

What is a "stellar bar"? Does our own Milky Way galaxy have one? How do we know that?! "Bars" are a key signpost in the evolutionary history of a galaxy. National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO)'s Dr. Kartik Sheth will discuss how we have studied bars nearby and far away and describe what they tell us about the history of galaxy assembly and evolution. A great conversation featuring some gorgeous images of galaxies! Please join us. FREE
