Philosophy colloquium: "Is the USA a(n Aristotelian) Democracy?"

Fri, 8 Sep 2017 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Cathal Woods

On Friday, September 8, from 3:30-5:00, Dr. Cathal Woods (Virginia Wesleyan University) will give a philosophy colloquium on the topic, "Is the USA a(n Aristotelian) Democracy?" Dr. Woods describes the talk this way: "For Aristotle, democracy is a deviant regime. If the USA is a democracy, Aristotle would consider it deviant. Maybe the USA is not a democracy? Or maybe Aristotle is wrong about democracy? By trying to apply Aristotle's political theory to a modern state, we'll test the limits of Aristotle's thinking."

The talk will take place in Cleveland Hall 114 (with Duke Hall 2039 as a backup if necessary). All faculty, majors, minors, and seekers of wisdom are invited!
