Health and Behavioral Services Building, Room G050 (Former RMH building located at 235 Martin Luther King Jr. Way)
In response to the growing Latino/a community in the nation, state and local community, James Madison University professors have organized the sixth annual Cultura y Comunidad, a community workshop intended to generate ideas about K-12 curricular content on Latin American and Latino/a history and culture in accordance with the Virginia Standards of Learning.
This year’s workshop will focus on dual language programs in our K-12 community. The workshop will include presentation and discussion during three sessions ending with an encore presentation by Dr. Barko-Alva during lunch. Workshop participants include:
- Dr. Katherine Barko-Alva, College of William and Mary (firstname.lastname@example.org)
- Dr. Lisa Porter, Assistant Professor of Sociology, JMU (email@example.com)
- Mr. Jeremy Aldrich, Harrisonburg City Schools (firstname.lastname@example.org)
- Mr. Hunter Rush, Dual Language Teacher, Harrisonburg City Schools (email@example.com)
The workshop will provide a dialogue about better ways to know our community and make connections between JMU and the local educational communities. We hope to build upon existing collaborations in order to better serve our shared student populations.
Please RSVP to Kristi McDonnell at firstname.lastname@example.org or (540) 568-7998.
