Dominique Christina - Poetry Reading

Tue, 25 Sep 2018 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Rescheduled: Tuesday, September 25th

Poet Dominique Christina

"Dominique Christina has refused to flee, finesse or fandango the brutal history of the African-American people, which is the story of the treacherous, murderous capitalist system itself. Here is a collection of poetry which explores the depths of compassion along with her rage; of a linguistic brilliance and of praise for the entourage of African-American heroes and martyrs who are part of all our souls' memories." — Jack Hirschman, poet/activist, published over 50 volumes of poetry

The Furious Flower Poetry Center is pleased to present Dominique Christina, the award-winning poet, author, educator, and activist who holds five national poetry slam titles, including the 2014 & 2012 Women of the World Slam Champion and 2011 National Poetry Slam Champion. Her work is greatly influenced by her family's legacy in the Civil Rights Movement and by the idea that words make worlds. Her poetry collections are: The Bones, The Breaking, The Balm: A Colored Girl's Hymnal, published by Penmanship Books, and They Are All Me, published by Swimming With Elephants Publishing. Her third book, This Is Woman's Work, published by SoundsTrue Publishing, is the radical exploration of 20 archetypal incarnations of womanness and the creative process. She has done branding and marketing language for Abbot Meade & Vickers Ad Agency (U.K) and Under Armour and is a writer/actor for the HBO series High Maintenance Season 2.

"Watching Dominique Christina perform is inspiring. She stands proudly in the middle of a circle, surrounded by many eager faces waiting to hear her speak, and clinging to every word as she does." — MET Media
