The Furious Flower Poetry Center at JMU hosts its fourth national collegiate summit this spring, March 22-24, for undergraduate and graduate students. Our theme, “Poetry Without Boundaries,” reaches across geographical borders and beyond conventional literary and ideological boundaries as three outstanding poets explore this topic in workshops and readings that take place over three days.

The summit opens with a reading a book signing on Thursday evening by our distinguished panel of faculty: 2017 Pulitzer Prize winner Tyehimba Jess, former Poet Laureate of Louisiana Brenda Marie Osbey, and performance artist Anastacia Tolbert. On Friday, we present the first series of workshops, a panel discussion by the invited faculty, and a major reading by Tyehimba Jess and Brenda Marie Osbey in Charlottesville as part of the Virginia Festival of the Book. On Satruday, the summit concludes with the final series of workshops, a luncheon discussion session, and an open mic for participating student poets.

JMU students attend at a nominal cost due to generous underwriting by the College of Arts & Letters.
