Graduate Commencement

Fri, 9 May 2014 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

The Graduate Commencement ceremony will be held in the Convocation Center Friday, May 9, at 10:00 a.m. Doors open at 8 a.m.; tickets are not required. Parking will be available in Convocation Center parking lots, and shuttles will be available from the Festival Center parking lots. Arrive early to avoid traffic congestion. This ceremony is for those completing a masters or doctoral degree.

Hooding practice for doctoral candidates and their dissertation directors and M.F.A. candidates and their exhibition thesis directors will be Thursday, May 8, at 1:00 p.m. in the Convocation Center. This rehearsal is mandatory. There is NO rehearsal for Master’s students.

All graduate faculty are invited to participate in the Graduate Commencement program. Graduate faculty will process in and will be seated in the faculty section. Faculty participating in the program will gather 9:15 - 9:30 a.m., in the Conference Room at the Convocation Center (on the left inside Entrance C) to robe and enjoy light refreshments. Parking is reserved for faculty at the Convocation Center, in lots B and E.  Have your regalia in plain view as this will serve as your “parking permit” for these lots.

All master’s students are expected to be in their assigned seats in full regalia no later than 9:45 a.m. Students must bring their pre-printed name cards with them to the ceremony. Name cards will be available to be picked up at The Graduate School (17 West Grace Street) 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday, May 5-8 or at the Information Table in the Convocation Center May 9 before 9:40 a.m.

Doctoral candidates will be hooded during the ceremony by their dissertation directors. Doctoral candidates will line up near Entrance E to process in as the ceremony begins. Pre-printed name cards may be picked up at The Graduate School May 5-8 or at the hooding practice May 8.

After the ceremony, the platform party and the faculty will recess. Students may then join their family and guests – they will not recess.
