November 13 - Gilliam Center host Cynthia Cooper
Cynthia Cooper headed Internal Audit at WorldCom and courageously led a
small team that covertly investigated and then exposed the multi-billion dollar
fraud that occurred, ultimately resulting in the largest fraud and bankruptcy in
U.S. history at that point. An accountant, Cynthia was named (along with two
other whistleblower's) a Time Magazine Person of the Year in 2002.
She later wrote the book, Extraordinary Circumstances, documenting her
experience. Cynthia is a popular speaker in corporate settings and in
universities.

November 13 - Joanne Doyle Seminar
The JMU Department of Economics and Gilliam Center Seminar series continues with "Defined Benefit Pension Plans: Empirical Analysis of Return Assumptions and Earnings Manipulation," a seminar conducted by JMU's Joanne Doyle.
This seminar will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in room 622 of Zane Showker Hall.

The JMU Department of Economics Seminar Series continues with "Decades of Deficits: The Real Red Menace," a presentation conducted by Burton Abrams from University of Delaware.
