September 2   - Finance Resume Night

September 6   - CoB Strategic Planning Session
The CoB will  hold a strategic planning meeting on Friday, Sept. 6, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Bridgeforth Stadium. Lunch will be available at noon, and a reception will be held after the session from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

September 7   - 5K Inaugural Scholarship Run

The Friends of the Valley Charities is hosting a 5K race to raise funds for a College of Business student affected by cancer, either themselves or their immediate family.

If you would like to register for the 5K race, you can do so online at Active.com (look for Harrisonburg, 5K, and the date; credit cards accepted) or complete the attached (please make the check out to “Friends of Valley Charities”) and mail it to 111 Wilton Place, Harrisonburg, Va. 22801.

September 11 - Meet the Firms Night
On Wednesday, September 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., recruiters from various companies will be in the festival ballroom to talk to accounting, CIS, and finance majors.  Professional dress is required.
September 11 - Ehsan Ahmed and J. Barkley Rosser, Jr. Seminar

The JMU Department of Economics and Gilliam Center Seminar series begins with a seminar conducted by Ehsan Ahmed and J. Barkley Rosser, Jr.titled "Are There Speculative Bubbles in Commodities Prices?"

The seminar will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Zane Showker Hall room 622. 



September 13 - Meet the Dean Dr. Mary A. Gowan
Come out to the patio behind Zane Showker Hall on Friday, Sept. 13, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to meet the new CoB dean, Dr. Mary A. Gowan.
September 13 - MIF To Host Career Development Seminar

The Madison Investment Fund and its Board of Advisors will be sponsoring a Career Development Seminar next Friday, September 13th for students in the College of Business. Professionals from Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Dominion Bank Rating Services, BNP Paribas, and Highline Capital Management will be in attendance to speak to students about jobs available in today’s competitive financial world, how to get those jobs, and how to succeed at those jobs. The presentation will be at 2:15pm in ZSH 105 and have significant time allotted for questions regarding career education, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation and best practices, and networking.

 



September 16 - Gilliam Center for Free Enterprise hosts speaker Arnold Kling

   George Mason University Senior Scholar Arnold Kling will be at the JMU campus to talk
   about "Why is the American Economy Broken, and Why Can't Government Fix It?" 

   The event will be held on Monday, September 16, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. in
   Zane Showker Hall room G6.

September 19 - William C. Wood Seminar

The JMU Department of Economics and Gilliam Center Seminar Series continues with a seminar titled "Supreme Court Justices' Ownership of Common Stock: Recusal and the Roberts Court" by JMU's William C. Wood. 

The seminar will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in room 622 of Zane Showker Hall.
