#MeToo (Flashpoint)

Thu, 8 Feb 2018 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM

Location: Madison Union room 256

The Flashpoint #MeToo, the first Flashpoint of the Spring 2018 semester, considers the impact of the October 2017 social media movement on our own campus and community, following national and international outcries concerning sexual misconduct allegations against Hollywood film producer, Harvey Weinstein. Social activist, Tarana Burke, has long used the phrase "#MeToo" to help survivors realize the widespread and pervasive nature of sexual harassment and sexual assault. These survivors include members of our own JMU campus, among the millions who have come forward to share their experiences. Faculty panelists will discuss with our broad audience the effects of this national and international movement, and the campus climate today.

Moderator: Sarah Brooks, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Coordinator for the Art History Program, and CFI Faculty Associate for Academic Culture.
