Ever wonder what the person in the office next door is doing for research? What about the person across campus? In this networking opportunity, faculty and graduate students will share their current research interests related to social justice to gain an appreciation of the diversity of social justice scholarship across campus.  Participants will form collaborative relationships and brainstorm about future scholarship agendas in an intimate lunch setting. Participants will focus on social justice issues they care most about, and how they are currently incorporating these issues into their scholarship agenda. Participants will share a two-minute summary of their research agenda and then they will participate in a speed-dating style discussion designed to facilitate future networking and participatory opportunities as part of the Mountain Valley Social Justice Network.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these program outcomes:

  • Learning about different research being conducted with a focus on social justice,
  • Evaluating and discussing scholarly agendas, and
  • Building the Mountain Valley Social Justice Network.

Faculty participants will make progress toward this career planning outcome:

  • Developing and fostering productive mentoring and networking relationships.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these scholarship outcomes:

  • Appreciating the diverse forms, purposes, and communication modes of scholarship in higher education, and
  • Forming collaborative scholarly projects with students, faculty, & staff at JMU and other institutions.
