You've made it. Now What? Career Conversations (Faculty Community)

Tue, 4 Oct 2016 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

Location:  Student Success Center room 3202

This workshop will also be offered on Mon, 03 Oct 2016 9:00 AM-10:30 AM in SSC 4047.  Use the link above to register for either session.  Please feel welcome to "brown bag" breakfast or lunch at either event.

This program invites faculty members who have been promoted to full professor or who have been at JMU for more than 11 years to join small peer-mentoring groups of 3-4 faculty. Each group meets once a month between October and March, at a time and place of its choice, to talk about questions related to its members' life and career stages, roles at JMU, career plans, faculty development needs, and related topics. Discussions will be curated by CFI with discussion prompts and short background readings, a kick-off meeting, and a concluding get-together in April 2017 at which groups exchange their conclusions and findings.

Faculty participants will make progress toward these career planning outcomes:

  • Appreciating the place and purpose of comprehensive career planning in academic careers,
  • Identifying and implementing effective strategies for career advancement,
  • Developing and fostering productive mentoring and networking relationships, and
  • Identifying strategies to maintain balance in work-life continuum.

Facilitator:  Andreas Broscheid, CFI and Political Science.

If you require non-dietary accommodations to participate in this program, please email the CFI at or call (568-4846) immediately to convey your needs.  We will work with the HR department to provide you with reasonable accommodations, if time permits.
