Creating and Maintaining Connections with Your Alumni

Tue, 12 Nov 2013 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM

Location: Rose Library 3311; lunch will be provided

Promoting meaningful connections with graduates offers endless opportunities to enrich departmental culture.  Establishing relationships early with alumni allows departments to track graduates as they enter jobs and graduate work.  More importantly, maintaining connections with alumni builds a culture that supports networking opportunities for current students, creates access for graduates to return to JMU to give talks or other job-related presentations, and builds relationships with graduates to support funding of department programs or initiatives.  This roundtable will offer insights on ways departments can design alumni networks and outreach that over time will build strong, sustainable relationships with graduates that can support teaching, learning, and research opportunities for current students and faculty.

This roundtable is designed for faculty to make progress towards the following outcomes:

  • explore strategies to connect with alumni; and
  • develop appreciation for the role of longterm planning to develop vibrant alumni networks.

Facilitator: Ashley Privott, JMU Alumni Association

Facilitator: Carrie Combs, College Engagement

This roundtable is cosponsored by the JMU Alumni Association and College Engagement.
