Image Theatre:An Arts-based Inquiry Approach for Teaching and Research

Tue, 5 Nov 2013 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM

Location: Taylor 405

Building on multiple intelligences theory and advances in arts-based research that explore modalities of knowing beyond word and number, this workshop will introduce participants to inquiry techniques that they can use in collaborative learning environments and to assist in research analysis.  Following a short discussion of the value of integrating the arts across disciplines, participants will create visual metaphors to represent research and course concepts (i.e. democratic classrooms, immigration, resilience, accountability, sustainability, care-giving, status, etc...).  Participants will enjoy a playful, creative, participatory approach to enriching their research projects and teaching.

This workshop is designed to help faculty make progress towards the following outcomes:

  • Gain an enriched understanding of research analysis and teaching through arts-based inquiry; and
  • Understand strategies to employ the arts in teaching and research - specifically image, gesture, sound, and metaphor.

Facilitator: Joe Norris , Ph.D., Brock University

This event is cosponsored by the College of Education.
