55th Annual Meeting

The JMU Asian Studies program is hosting the 55th Annual Meeting of the Southeast Conference of the Association of Asian Studies Friday, January 15 – Sunday, January 17. Scholars from 20 states and nine countries will be presenting papers on all topics related to Asia.

We invite everyone to attend the following three events: 

  • Film screening of Frame by Frame on Friday, January 15, 7:00pm in Madison Union 404. View the trailer here.
  • “China’s New Silk Road Strategy and Diplomacy Toward Central Asia.” A lecture by political scientist Dr. Wang Zhi of Xi’an International Studies University, China, taking place in the Madison Union Ballroom on Saturday, January 16, 2:00pm.
  • "Asian International Relations before ‘International Relations.’” A lecture by historian Dr. Timothy Brook of the University of British Columbia, author of the acclaimed work Vermeer's Hat in the Madison Union Ballroom on Saturday, January 16, 6:00pm.

The JMU community is welcome to attend panel sessions on Saturday and Sunday all held in the Madison Union. The full program is available here
