The paintings by Sarah Florjancic blend architectural and abstract subject matter, as well as utilize experiments with non-traditional canvas structure. Through these paintings she addresses themes pertaining to memories, inhabited spaces, and manmade structures.
The posters by Laura DeBusk are computer-generated images that express a mix of informative and persuasive design. Her posters combine both type and image to relay a message; whether that message calls attention to a social issue, informs the viewer of a little known topic, or just says, “Hey, stop and look at me!”
Jacob Melton’s abstract compositions are inspired by the stars and are reminiscent of a section of the asteroid belt. The viewer is guided through space that switches from atmospheric to concrete, and from endless to surface, while continually being reminded of material. By creating these contrasts, the artist aims to represent the feeling of being constantly confronted with the dichotomy of the obvious and the unanswerable.
Envirostream, by Emer Tumelty, was an airstream designed for an Environmental Engineer and consisting of many systems inspired by animal characteristics and tendencies. The 1/8” = 1’ scale model was made with materials such as aluminum, basswood, and plexy glass. She describes the design through animal and spatial research, as well as 3D digital and hand drafted drawings.
