Grafton-Stovall Movie Theatre Ads
The University Program Board creates slides to show before movies begin in Grafton-Stovall theater. This type of advertisement is extremely successful because people in the theater have no choice but to look at the pictures on the screen. In addition, the advertisements always look extremely professional, thereby increasing the viability of the event you are promoting.

Process: You can either create a slide yourself, or have UPB create the slide. E-mail the slide as an attachment to the UPB Director of Multimedia & Graphical Design (e-mail available on the UPB website). The ad must be a .jpg or .gif image that is 1024 pixels wide x 768 pixels high. If you want UPB to design the advertisement, there is a charge of $5. The cost of having an ad Wednesday through Saturday is $25.

WXJM PSA’s
WXJM DJ's do public service announcements, or PSA's, throughout the day for various JMU and Harrisonburg community events. WXJM has a healthy contingency of Harrisonburg listeners, so unlike many other forms of advertising, WXJM PSA's reach Harrisonburg youth, as well as JMU students.

Process: Write a short, but concise public service announcement and submit it to WXJM either through their e-mail address or via fax. Announcements should include the who, what, when, where, how, and why of the event, as well as contact information. PSA's for events that better the community, such as fundraisers or blood drives, take precedence over entertainment events. Only non-profit organizations may submit PSA's.

Timeline: Submit the PSA a few days before you want it heard. DJ's will read PSA's only if they are timely, so don't expect to hear an announcement you submit for an event that is in three months.

Harrisonburg Transit Bus Ads
Off-campus students are an easily advertising target by placing ads in Harrisonburg Transit Buses. The ads are posted either in the front of the bus or above the windows on the sides of the bus. Students frequently look at these advertisements while riding on the bus.

Process: Create an advertisement to put up in the buses. The ad must be 11 inches tall and printed on card stock. Kinkos and the JMU Copy Centers are able to print on cardstock. Print 32 copies at most and take them to the information desk in Taylor Hall.

Timeline: Bring the ads to TDU at least one week before you want them in the buses. Advertisements usually stay up for a few weeks.
