Voices from Laos: Nationwide Speakers Tour

Thu, 25 Apr 2013 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

7-8:30 p.m.
Room 159, ISAT/CS Building

Guest speakers Manixia Thor, a 24-year-old mother and leader of an all-female demining team in Laos, and Thoummy Silamphan, a Lao bomb-accident survivor who heads the Quality of Life Association in Xieng Khouang, the first association to serve bomb survivors in Laos, offer firsthand accounts of the lingering dangers of unexploded bombs in Laos. After Thor and Silamphan share their stories, they will be joined in a panel discussion by Channapha Khamvongsa, executive director at Legacies of War; Titus Peachey, director of peace education for Mennonite Central Committee-U.S.; and Dr. Ken Rutherford, director of the Center for International Stabilization and Recovery at JMU. Sponsored by the Center for International Stabilization and Recovery. For information, visit http://cisr.jmu.edu/legacies.htm; free.
