International scholars present papers, panels, artistic renderings, posters and other presentations on the theme "Greening the Diaspora: Dispersing Seeds, Growing Cultures." Dr. Michael A. Gomez of New York University, the keynote speaker, presents "Fragmentation and Formation: African Diaspora as Process" and Joseph C. Miller of the University of Virginia presents the featured lecture, "'When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going': Africans in an Atlantic World of Enslavement?"
