Jonathan Bright specializes in comparative European politics and security studies. His substantive research interests lie in the study of parliamentary careers and legislative scrutiny (particularly as it relates to crime and civil security legislation). In methodological terms, he specialises in computerised approaches to the social sciences and the opportunities created by parliamentary informatics. He is currently working on projects on ministerial careers in Europe (in conjunction with the Parlgov data infrastructure), legislative oversight in the British parliament (1997-2012), and dynamics of parliamentary discourse and debate during the last century.
Bright holds a PhD in political science from the European University Institute, an MSc in International Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London, and a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Bristol. He has previously worked for openDemocracy in London and the Fundación para las Relaciones Internacionales y el Diálogo Exterior in Madrid.
