Comments from EUPS Program Alumni
"The EUPS program gives you the opportunity to live and intern abroad--not as a typical study abroad student, but as a young professional. My experiences have helped me to stand out with potential employers. In this global labor market, it's not enough to just have a degree. You have to be able to demonstrate your abilities and to be versatile. After my year in Florence, I have an M.A. degree, work experience, a second language, a portfolio of my writing, and the practical skills necessary to begin my career. I have also made friends from all over the world and proven my ability to operate in different cultural settings."

"The M.A. degree, and, more importantly, the program location displayed my interests in international affairs and in learning about other cultures. Hiring managers were able to see that I was open-minded and that I was able to mix easily with people from different cultures, religions, etc. Many hiring managers were impressed by the fact that I had lived abroad and thus recieved a 'global education.' The activities of the program further demonstrated my ability to handle a wide variety of tasks in a competitive position."

"JMU's EUPS program has prepared me incomparably for working in the European institutions. As a trainee in the European Parliament, I feel that I am at least as well prepared as my peers to deal with the intricacies of the EU's legislative processes. This degree gave me an excellent opportunity to really plumb the depths of my knowledge and abilities. The access the program provides to experts in the field, through the European University Institute, on the ground in Brussels, and in the classroom, was invaluable. I could not imagine a better use of ten months."

"With the EUPS program, you have the advantage of earning a master's degree in one year. The demands are many. You must manage classes, readings, meetings, guest lectures, and trips (not to mention a social life!). But, in the end, the EUPS program is one of the most intellectually, socially, and culturally rewarding experiences you will ever have."

"JMU's EUPS program in Florence helped to shape me as a person . . . Being thrown into an unfamiliar place with complete strangers forced me to discover who I was on a fundamental level. Being on my own brought out an independence I didn't know I had . . . The experience provides a glimpse into the world, cultures, and people that you cannot find within the US."
