Kristen Shrewsbury, ESOL Specialist

Kristen Shrewsbury is JMU's resident English to Speakers of Other Languages Specialist.  In addition to working in English Language Learner Services, Kristen also teaches Cross-Cultural Education and Second Langauge Acquisition in the Execeptional Education Department of the College of Education.  She is a JMU alumna and has returned to the Shenandoah Valley after receiving a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Delaware.  Kristen is currently working on her doctorate at the California Institute of Integral Studies focusing on aspects of identity cultivation in creative community spaces.

Kristen worked in an intensive English program as an instructor of reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar prior to her current position in English Language Learner Services.   Her goal is to provide access for every student to robust educational and personal experiences.  She is available for individual consultations Monday through Thursday and coordinates a Multilingual Writers' Community which meets in small groups throughout the week.

Dre SecristDre Secrist is a graduate student assistant of English Language Learner Services.  She received her Bachelors of Science from JMU in Communications and Spanish Foreign Language and Literature.  After completing her undergraduate work, she spent a year working for the Migrant Education Program in the Shenandoah Valley through JMU.  Dre is currently working on her masters at JMU in Spanish and English as a Second Language education.

Dre is offering grammar instruction twice a week to English language learners who wish to engage in an in depth exploration of English grammar and usage.  She also assists in coordinating the Multilingual Writer's Community.
