Publications and Interests:
Lived and worked in Eastern Europe for 5 years (1997-2000 in Macedonia,
2000-2002 in Slovakia).
Publications include the translating/editing
of the contemporary Macedonian short story collection Change of
the System (Macedonian to English) and other literary translations. They also include essays on the Coen brothers, Larry Brown, Mark Twain, Baseball Fiction, several original short stories, and (since February 2003) a regular book review column for The Daily News Record (Harrisonburg, VA), alternating with wife Lucy Bednar.
Further interests include local acoustic musicians; the films of
the Martin Scorsese, Sam Peckinpah, W.C. Fields, and the Coen Brothers;
and blues/jazz/bluegrass music.
