GHUM 200: Speculative Fiction

Dr. Cote 3 credits

In this course we will focus on some major philosophical and social themes in speculative fiction. Also, while reading and discussing a diverse, interesting, and unusual collection of both modern and historical works that may be categorized as "speculative" (science fiction, fantasy, magical realism, etc.),  we will be led to consider the nature of genre(s) and the cultural factors that influence ideas about genre, about literary "greatness," and about canonicity in the humanities.
