GHUM 200: Woman and Violence in Literature

Dr. Goode 3 credits

This course will explore the representation of violence against women as it occurs in literary texts from the eighteenth century to the contemporary period. Our discussion will be informed by current feminist theory and grounded in the reality that violence against women continues to be an ever-present threat. We will examine our selected texts in terms of how class, race, gender, and sexuality of both the authors and their characters may affect the representation (and our reading) of such violence.
