Prof. Kutchins 3 credits

          As an advanced creative writing course, we will do a close reading of Whitman’s poem “Song of Myself,” using his poem as the central prompt for the writing we will do. We will live with Whitman's poem and creative process; you will explore your own lyric/poetic voice; the lyric, “song” aspects of writing and reading poetry.  We will also explore, as Whitman did, self and Self -- both singular and collective presence in the voice and sensibility of a longer poetic work. English 392 is a prerequisite, and also having taken English 494 is preferred.
