From sonnets to slam, this course offered in the fall of 2012 will focus on the theory, history and practice of poetic forms. Students will study and apprentice themselves to a diverse variety of poetic forms, from different cultural traditions and times. They will also focus on a particular form of their choosing to become more proficient as writers of poetry using form as a primary poetic craft. The style of the course will be a workshop format, with students bringing their original poems to class each week, using formal as well as informal constraints.
