The course offers students the opportunity to study in-depth the work of a major
contemporary American writer, Don DeLillo. We will read and discuss
eight of his novels, in chronological order; with a view to comprehending
his style and major concerns, including the meaning of history;
the individual’s relationship to various systems; the place
of the artist; the nature of contemporary life; pop culture; and
language itself. We will also examine a film written by DeLillo,
GAME 6. Students will be asked to investigate at least one additional
work on their own, either a novel or a play.
