Federico 3 credits
This course will explore the writings of two extremely popular and influential nineteenth-century Scottish authors, Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) and Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894). For Scott, we’ll tackle a trilogy of short stories, Chronicles of the Canongate, and an historical novel of love, intrigue, and madness, The Bride of Lammermoor. For Stevenson, we’ll read Treasure Island, Kidnapped, The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and more “shocker” stories, The Master of Ballantrae, the South Sea tales (including The Ebb-Tide), and two charming travel memoirs, Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes and The Amateur Immigrant.
