This course offers an experiential approach to learning the art and craft of poetry writing. Our priority is your own creative writing, as we read the work of accomplished poets whose poems can teach us many things about poetic craft and imagination. A structure of weekly in-class writing and prompted assignments will allow you to sample and become proficient in using the most pertinent poetic tools in the poet’s workshop. In both small group and whole class discussions, we will use constructive approaches for discussing poems in draft stage, and learn useful strategies for workshop response as well as revision as an outgrowth of reader response.
