ENG 356: Modern American Novel

 

Dr. Mark Facknitz 3 credits

          This course looks at America in the first half of the twentieth century through the eyes of several of its most important novelists. Included in the list are James Agee and Walker Evans (Let Us Now Praise Famous Men), Willa Cather (The Professor’s House), John Dos Passos (42nd Parallel), F. Scott Fitzgerald (Tender Is the Night), Ernest Hemingway (The Sun Also Rises), Claude McKay (Home to Harlem), Katherine Anne Porter  (Pale Horse, Pale Rider: Three Short Novels), and John Steinbeck (East of Eden). The course satisfies either historical period or genre/theory requirement.
