It investigates points of connection between earlier cultures and our own by exploring the meanings of fascinating and enduring works of literature in their original political and historical contexts. Themes will include heroism, moral behavior, history and myth, sexuality, satire, and more. The course will build critical thinking skills by introducing students to methods of literary study. Completion of the course counts toward credit in the General Education program and the survey requirement for the English major.
