Note: Board and lodging costs are set for our journey. Circumstances may dictate changes. Our foreign-based hosts require advance payment for lodging and, in the case of our visit to Oxford, partial board. Participants will be unable to make alternative arrangements for lodging or partial board. In order to participate in this program, individuals will need to return a signed form that grants permission to James Madison University to deduct these expenses from the seminar stipend. Participants will receive a check for the remainder prior to departure. Based on estimates for foreign exchange conversion, this sum may be as high as $1,100.

Note: Hotel rates in Antwerp, London, and Oxford are quoted in Euros or pounds sterling as is appropriate. The dollar equivalents of these rates will be dependent on currency exchange rates at the time of our journey.

The stipend of $3900 that NEH will provide to participants will cover a considerable portion of the cost of this program. Basic expenses will include

Hotel Cammerpoorte, Antwerp: en suite accommodation for 4 nights (Sunday 17 June - Wednesday 20 June) @ €65 per person per night (to include breakfast) = €260

College Hall, University College London: en suite accommodation for 3 nights (Thursday 21 June - Saturday 23 June) @ £55.20 per person per night (to include breakfast) = £165.60

St. Edmund Hall, Oxford:
Bed & Breakfast in Single Standard Rooms for 27 nights (beginning Sunday 24 June) @ £37/night = £999
3 course Dinner with coffee for 20 dinners @ at £18.50/each = £370
1 Lunch on Sunday 24 June @ £12.50 = £12.50
Total St. Edmund Hall = £1381.50

The stipend remainder of approximately $1,100 would defray a portion of the expense of plane fare from USA to Antwerp and from London to USA. Participants will be responsible for the following costs in addition to incidental expenses:

Antwerp: all dinners, selected lunches (see detailed daily schedule), entertainment, and local transportation

London: all lunches and dinners, entertainment, and local transportation

Oxford: all lunches after 24 June, entertainment, and dinners on Fridays and Saturdays

Paperback copy of Philip Gaskell’s A New Introduction to Bibliography.

St. Edmund Hall offers optional in-room broadband ethernet access for approximately £10. Participants also have the option of purchasing a laundry card (approximately £10), which is usable at in-college laundry facilities. These fees are payable upon arrival to St. Edmund Hall. Laundry facilities are also available in London at College Hall.

Participants will receive the following free of charge:

Access to online library resources via James Madison University Libraries.

Packet of secondary readings in electronic form.

Train transportation from Antwerp to London via Channel Tunnel & coach transportation from London to Oxford.

Paid admission fee for Bodleian Library reader card.
