Studies in World Literature: South Asia This course introduces students to representative works of South Asian literature produced over the course of the 20th century. It aims at giving students a critical overview of South Asian literatures and to foster an awareness of the historical, cultural, and intellectual contexts of writings from South Asia and the South Asian diaspora. Students taking the course will study the impact of social, economic and political forces on the production of literary texts. Class discussions will be organized around issues such as nation and narrative; violence; gender; and marginalized identities.
