Scoring

Design competition scoring will be based on five parameters: performance, economics, sustainability, design quality, and team collaboration. Overall Design Score = Performance Score + Economics Score + Sustainability Score + Design Quality Score + Collaboration Score

  • Performance
    Objective: Launch the Duke dog through the hula hoop and stick the landing.
    Score: 0-100  points
  • Economics
    Objective: Each team will complete the provided budget worksheet to determine a sustainability and a economic score.  (Each team is required to have one laptop computer with access to Excel.)
    Score: 0-100 points
  • Sustainability
    Objective:  Give preference to reusable or recyclable components. Score will be determined by the amount of materials used, regardless of whether they actually are incorporated in the final design.  Remember: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Remove (in that order).
    Score: 0-100 points
  • Collaboration
    Objective:
    Work together to design and construct the device. This means that each team member is intimately familiar with all aspects of the device design and construction.
    Score: 0-100 points
    A maximum of 100 points will be awarded based on judges’ assessment of thelevel of teamwork and collaboration in the design and construction of the device.
  • Design Build
    Objective:
      Each team will be judged on the quality of their build.  Extra points may be given for creativity.
    Score:  0-100 points
