Why Give?

There are many reasons to give to James Madison University. Each gift makes a difference to the present and the future.

•  Make a Difference

Gifts to the Madison Fund are largely unrestricted, which means your gift will go directly toward the bottom line for the University and its schools and programs. The Madison Fund makes great things happen in the lives of students, faculty, and the entire community.

Increase the Value of Your Diploma

Alumni giving is a key factor in determining national rankings, therefore your gift helps increase the value of every Madison diploma. This in turn, makes our graduates more competitive in the job market.

•  OffsetStateBudget Cuts

State appropriated funds are decreasing as the cost of the JMU experience is steadily increasing. Direct public support accounts for less than 40 percent of JMU's annual operating budget. While public dollars will continue to be sufficient to meet James Madison University's basic requirements, guaranteeing JMU's traditional margin of excellence now requires additional private support from all graduates and friends of the University. As we look to the future, the crucial need for an increased level of private giving becomes apparent

•  Sustain JMU's National Ranking

The number of alumni who make a gift every year is a key factor in determining national rankings of colleges and universities, such as U.S. News & World Report's annual top-20 list. Learn more about JMU's current ranking in U.S. News & World Report.
